Technology and Dropout Rates

Can Technology Make High School Graduation a Reality for Everyone?

This week, RETA continues their ongoing webinar series Monday night at 6:00 PM with a very popular topic, Screen Cast-O-Matic. As a classroom teacher, you may not be fond of creating screen casts (video and/or audio) as an instructional tool, but your students will love creating their own podcasts and vodcasts. Remember, you can view the archived version of all the webinars at any time by visiting RETA’s webinar page and clicking on the ARCHIVED tab.

With Fall break beginning on Thursday, October 30, the Tech Team wishes SCS employees and students a well-deserved rest. When everyone returns after Election Day (REMEMBER TO VOTE!), the conversion to the Vista Operating System and Microsoft Office 2007 should be complete. This will be an exciting and challenging time for all users on the SCS network. The increased functionality should improve your technology experience, but remember that these changes will require some acclimation and adaptation. You can click the two links in the sidebar to the right to learn more about Vista and Office 2007.

Users should make sure that they have saved all their documents to the MY DOCUMENTS folder … please do not leave documents on your “desktop” as they may not be saved properly. If you have any files that are extremely valuable, please make a back-up copy to a portable drive or a CD. Also, please remember to LOG OFF your computer before you leave on Thursday.

For the Tech Team, the Fall break marks the beginning of a transition for us. Reflecting back, we have completed a major implementation that includes the start of a new year, the installation of a new phone system and the rollover to a new network. We also completed the proposed 2008 – 2011 Technology Plan. Following this week’s transition to Vista and Office 2007 (and the inevitable “tweaking” that will undoubtedly be necessary), the Tech Team will begin its next major project. The beginning of that project includes a challenge to all of SCS’ teachers (see below).
