Professional Growth from a World of Acronymic Wells of Knowledge
The great instructors from RETA continue their excellent webinar series on Monday night at 6:00 PM with Wikis in the Classroom II. As we learned in Part 1, “Wiki” is a Hawaiian word for “quick” and Wikis are excellent, fast and easy collaborative tools for educators and students. If you missed Part 1, don’t worry … you can view it along with the other previous RETA webinars by clicking on the “ARCHIVED” tab on the webinar page.
The measure of success for any professional development program is the quick, thoughtful application of new skills into practice. Teachers have every right to expect that the Director of Technology should practice and model this concept. That’s why the draft of Socorro’s 2008-2011 Technology Plan was made available to the Technology Committee on a Wiki, allowing the committee to read, comment and edit the draft. It is always a blast to see technology at work in the district!
All Socorro residents need to sign up at the Educational Technology Action Network. ETAN provides a forum for educators and others to engage in the political process and project a unified voice in support of a common cause – improving teaching and learning through the systemic use of technology. You can let the local politicians know that we are part of a national coalition to preserve and improve technology funding in schools
As a follow-up to last week’s announcement, please remember that the Tech Team will be converting the SCS network to the Vista Operating System and Microsoft Office 2007 over the upcoming Fall break. This is an exciting change with many great new features to help teachers and staff. Since the conversion could possibly erase any “extra” programs that you may have installed on your computer, please make arrangements before the break to save your data to a flash drive or a CD.
